LCP - Challenge 12 - Cityscapes

So, Leanne Cole's challenge this week is cityscapes. Although this is not my particular area, I have played around with it a bit over the years. My images are nowhere near as spectacular as Leanne's. I absolutely love her work.

This challenge though has given me an opportunity to look back at how my photography has evolved and improved over the years. I have always loved photography. As a child I was given a Kodak Instamatic camera when I was about 8 or 9 years old (the first camera for most of us older generation lol) and was a prolific photographer. My photos cover everything from toys, my family, lots and lots of pet photos, rural life (as I grew up on a cattle station) and architecture (there are some amazing buildings in Charters Towers).

I purchased my first SLR camera when I was 18. At that time I was being mentored by a friend who was a brilliant photographer. My subjects at that time were mainly horses as I was breaking and training Quarter Horses and showing in Western events. Unfortunately, that first camera broke and was unable to be fixed.

Life then got in the way of my photography and it was not until I purchased my first digital camera in about 2003 that I got the bug again. That first camera was a 4mp with a 10x optical zoom (wow! 4mp!). I was so proud of my city shots at night. Looking back at them now, they are pretty poor quality, but I'm still pretty pleased with the composition.

About 2013 I got my first DSLR. It was a big step up from the digital camera. I didn't do a lot with it though until I had to medically retire from my job in 2014. Since then I have had more time to concentrate on my photography and have got serious about making this part of my life. Although unable financially to obtain any formal qualifications, Professor Google has a lot of information if you are prepared to spend the time looking for it, and surprisingly I still remember much of what my first mentor taught me. I love the challenge of trying to get a shot that I have imagined in my mind, playing with different settings until I get the result I want to achieve ... and often surprising myself with something really epic during the process.

I hope you enjoy these images. You can see Leanne's challenge here https://leannecole.com.au/photo-challenge-12-cityscape/
